Ram Gopal Varma issued a non-bailable warrant in the check bounce case
The Mumbai court issued a non-bailable warrant in his name, according to a Telangana Today report, after hearing the case for seven years. According to reports, he was also found guilty under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which punishes dishonouring checks for not having enough money or for having more money than the account was supposed to have.
The director must also pay ₹3.75 lakh to compensate the complainant. If he fails to pay the amount within three months, it will result in an additional three months of imprisonment.
About the cheque bounce case
In 2018, a corporation called Shree, acting through Maheshchandra Mishra, filed a complaint against RGV’s company for check bounce. Following the provision of a ₹5000 security deposit and a personal bond, the director was released on bail in June 2022. Since RGV was “not in custody during trial,” the magistrate who handed down the sentence allegedly said that there would be no “set-off under Section 428 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.”
According to reports, the director did not attend the hearing, and a thorough ruling is still pending. He took to X and wrote, “With regard to the news about me and Andheri court, I want to clarify that it is to do with a 7 year old case of ₹2 lakh 38 thousand amount, relating to my ex-employee .. My advocates are attending to it. and since the matter is in court I cannot say anything further.”
